Sub surface aeration dramatically increases oxygen levels in your large pond, especially at the bottom. Higher oxygen levels allow for increased numbers of beneficial bacteria which help to improve water quality, water clarity and reduce sludge and muck.
Subsurface aeration creates strong currents in the water that moves oxygen poor water form the bottom of the pond to the surface, where it picks up oxygen from the air. This oxygen rich water then returns to the bottom of the pond allowing beneficial bacteria and enzymes to grow and digest organic debris and sludge on the bottom, reducing the nutrient load in the pond.

Beneficial Bacteria are the ‘biological’ component of a biological filter. It is these bacteria that make your water safe for your fish; by breaking down the toxic ammonia they produce into harmless nitrates
