Aeration is the term used to describe the process of adding oxygen to a pond or body of water. Although oxygen can be added to the pond via a waterfall or fountainhead, often the most efficient way to provide maximum pond aeration is by using a compressor / air pump, along with tubing and diffusers to introduce a constant flow of air bubbles to the bottom of the pond. As these bubbles rise, they pull water them from the bottom of the pond to the surface where most oxygen exchange occurs. This process is called sub-surface aeration.
Why Aerate Your Pond?
As temperatures change in your pond through the seasons, adjust your fish food accordingly. Feed a Spring & Fall food when the water is cool and Growth or Colour Enhancing foods when the temperatures are warmer.
Doitsu is the term given to koi that are not fully scaled – sometimes referred to as German scaled koi. They can be completely scaleless, or have a row of large plate scales along each lateral line, or a row on either side of the dorsal fin.
